What better way to kick off the 2018-19 school year than with making toast and learning about time management? Time Management: Tips & Tricks is the title of our event, which is taking place, tomorrow! If that does not sound intriguing enough, scrap that and put Toast Tuesday on your calendar; there will be a special station for creating your very own toast. Who knows, maybe we will do a contest for the prettiest one? We shall see. We will kick off with a fun icebreaker and continue with some hands-on activities, personal experiments, and more. After all, we all have something to learn or share about time management.

Book Club Meeting: Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

In our next meeting, we will be enjoying a presentation about Dr. Seuss’s wonderfully wise Oh, the Places You’ll Go! In this book, Dr. Seuss addresses life’s ups and downs with his trademark humorous verse and illustrations, while encouraging readers to find the success that lies within. In a starred review, Booklist notes, “Seuss’s message is simple but never sappy: life may be a ‘Great Balancing Act,’ but through it all ‘There’s fun to be done.’” A perennial favorite and a perfect gift for anyone starting a new phase in their life!

Book Club Meeting: Stress Management

Stress is a feeling we get when faced with a challenge. Feeling stressed for a long time can take a toll on our mental and physical health. Even though it may seem hard to find ways to de-stress with all the things we have to do, it’s important to find those ways. Our health depends on it. Stress Management will be our theme this quarter and will be exploring the topic in three sessions. We will conclude the session with some basic Yoga and breathing exercises.

Book Club Meeting: Flatland

This masterpiece of science (and mathematical) fiction is a delightfully unique and highly entertaining satire that has charmed readers for more than 100 years. The work of English clergyman, educator and Shakespearean scholar Edwin A. Abbott (1838-1926), it describes the journeys of A. Square, a mathematician and resident of the two-dimensional Flatland, where women-thin, straight lines-are the lowliest of shapes, and where men may have any number of sides, depending on their social status.

Book Club Meeting: Pathways to Bliss

In Pathways to Bliss, Campbell examines this personal, psychological side of myth. Like his classic best-selling books Myths to Live By and The Power of Myth, Pathways to Bliss draws from Campbell’s popular lectures and dialogues, which highlight his remarkable storytelling and ability to apply the larger themes of world mythology to personal growth and the quest for transformation. Here he anchors mythology’s symbolic wisdom to the individual, applying the most poetic mythical metaphors to the challenges of our daily lives.
